WANDERER

More and more we live indoors and our experience with nature is increasingly through pictures. On city walls, I found nature represented as outdoor murals. I combine these tableaux with a life-size cutout of my teenage daughter, who as she leaves childhood no longer has the inclination to be involved in the natural world. As childhood passes so does her memory of that uncomplicated time when finding her identity was simpler. A surrogate for the 21st century generation, her virtual presence is detaching from nature as well as from our relationship. She wanders through the urban realm where mural art has become a stand-in for the natural world that was once there. The implied is as genuine as the experience; she no longer needs to be in nature to partake in it.
